When you stay in Munich just for a short period, the most important available tickets are the following:
Single ticket - Depending on where you want to go, the single ticket (no return ticket) costs Euro 2.20 (for really short trips only Euro 1.10). You either buy it at the blue ticket machines in the station or directly in the tram or bus (this option is not available in U-Bahn and S-Bahn). Be careful: you have to stamp the ticket before it gets valid. When you buy it in the ticket machines in bus or tram, you don't have to stamp it.
Stripe ticket - The stripe ticket is virtually the same as the single ticket. The only difference is that you can use it for more than one journey and it is slightly cheaper. Be careful again: You cannot buy it in tram or bus and you always have to stamp the amount of stripes you need in one of the blue ticket-cancelling machines before you use it.
A stripe ticket has 10 stripes and costs 10.50 Euro.
Day ticket - If you are a group of people or need a ticket for many trips within Munich throughout the day, it is sensible to buy a day ticket.
There are combination tickets available as well, i.e. the MVG cooperates with organisers of cultural, leisure and toursim events where the MVG transport facilities are included in the ticket for the event. In this, it is possible to use the MVG with your ticket for the event. But be careful: As not all entrance tickets include an MVG ticket, check the information on your entrance ticket before you use it for travelling with the MVG!
If you need more information because you might stay in Munich for a longer period, please refer to theofficial website of the MVG.
