In Munich, there is a large variety of theaters: state theaters, music theaters, private theaters and many more.
On this page, we will mention the most popular theaters and those showing operas, musicals or plays in English regularly as well as concert halls.
Bayerische Staatsoper (Nationaltheater)
The largest and most impressive theater in Munich is the opera house (referred to as "Staatsoper" or "Nationaltheater") located in the city center.
Operas, operettas and ballets are shown here every day.
Another state theater that shows operas and operettas regularly and is quite an impressive building as well, is the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz that is located directly at the Gärtnerplatz.
Opened in 1985, the Gasteig is Munich's major cultural center. The huge building accommodates for example a state library, theater stages and the "Philharmonie".
The beautiful Prinzregententheater was built according to plans of the architect Max Littmann following the example of the "Richard-Wagner-Festspielhaus" in Bayreuth and opened in 1901.
